Kazakh Internet Font Kit
I have come up with a very tentative encoding for
transmitting Kazakh across the internet. It is a superset of KOI8-R,
which means it is compatible with most Russian, Ukrainian, and
Belorussian documents on the web. It should probably be extended to
support other Turkic languages in cyrillic script. Mail me at aeulenbe@indiana.edu if you would
like to receive the latest news on internet and Macintosh
Turkic encoding standards and fonts (both latin and cyrillic).
The font kit includes a ten-point bitmap version of Courier and a
keyboard resource so you can type in Kazakh (it's actually an ARTSEEL
"student" Russian keyboard with the extra Kazakh letters accessible
through the option key. Just download the two files
and drag them into your system folder. To select the Kazakh keyboard,
use the Keyboards control panel or the Keyboard menu if you have
one.
Important!!
- In order for the font to work with internet
applications, you must set your "encoding" to "none" (NCSA Telnet) or
"MacRoman" (Netscape), as well as selecting the font.
- In order to type in Kazakh you must select the Kazakh keyboard.
- This Kazakh font standard is actually not a standard! Use with discretion!
